Earthquake Brace and Bolt Program

Many of us remember the Loma Prieta earthquake on October 17th, 1989 and the ensuing damage that rocked the peninsula. Thousands of homes and businesses were hit by the quake, centered near Santa Cruz, and the effects were felt throughout the entire Bay Area. With a magnitude of 6.9, the quake caused an estimated $6 billion dollars in damage and claimed the lives of fifty seven Californians. In addition. the Ridgecrest earthquakes in 2019 rocked California with 5.4 and 7.1 magnitudes and those effects were felt not only in Southern California; it was also felt as far north as the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, east to parts of Arizona and Nevada, and south to Mexicali and Tijuana.

The Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program was developed in 2011 to help lessen the damage to homes in case of another quake. While nothing is foolproof, bolting your home to the foundation and adding bracing around the crawl space could help minimize the damage that can result from a major earthquake.
