The Failure of Wooden Support Posts
When our Structural consultant, Jesse Marquez, did his foundation inspection, he discovered things like this. The wood post at the center is clearly unstable. The way it had been installed was improper. There was nothing attaching the top to the floor framing or the bottom to the concrete footing; you could push it out like a Jenga piece if you wanted to.

The closest SmartJack here was installed to replace one of the wooden posts that was no longer doing it's job. The SmartJack is screwed into the floor framing at top, and bolted into the concrete footing below.

Whoever installed these wooden posts probably wasn't aware of the headache they would cause the future homeowner.

Some areas where the floor was sagging needed more help than merely replacing the existing wooden posts. We added these two Smartjacks with a square steel beam to help lift and level this part of the floor.
