Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant Slab Lift
Challenge
Wastewater in the Vacaville, California area is collected and transported through a network of sewer lines and lift stations located throughout the city to the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant. The goal of the treatment process is to remove as much pollutants in the wastewater as possible to minimize the risks to public health and impact on the environment. Located outside the plant are electrical panels that sit on concrete slabs. A group of panels sitting on a slab approximately 4’x12’ and another sitting on a 4’x4’ slab had experienced several inches of settlement since original construction. Additional support was needed to stabilize and return the slabs to their original position.
Solution
The Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant chose to have Foundation Repair of CA install 6 helical piers around the sunken areas, driven to bedrock, to lift and support the concrete slabs. HP288 helical piers with 8” – 10” double-helix lead sections were used. Each pier was to support a design working load of 20 kips.
